Ukrainian Jewish Mayor Gennady Kernes is showing signs of improvement. Kernes survived an assassination attempt and was flown to Israel for continued care. He has regained consciousness, NRG reports, but he remains in very serious condition as he sustained injury to several major internal organs.

The mayor was shot in the back while jogging. The motive for the attack is unclear.
