Speaking with Kol Berama Radio on Thursday morning 2 Rosh Chodesh Iyar 5774, MK Rav Moshe Gafne stated that following his meeting with Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, he and his colleagues received promises chareidim will not be compelled to serve against their will.
Leaders of chareidi parties in Knesset met with the defense minister this week, as was reported by YWN-ISRAEL.
Gafne explained the minister told them that even in three years time when bnei yeshivos will have to begin filling quotas and the new draft law is in effect, the government will not compel talmidim to serve. Gafne quotes the senior cabinet minister saying that there is no administration in Israel that is going to compel such a situation, seeking to allay the fears of the chareidi communities.
Gafne stated the minister said there would not be a situation that involved violence or a need for mesirus nefesh.
