The sentencing hearings in the Holyland Real Estate case continue in the Tel Aviv District Court. The prosecution is seeking a 5-7 year jail term for the main defendant, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
Justice Rosen has signaled the prosecutor that he feels leniency should be shown for two of the defendants, former Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky and former Councilman Avraham Feiner. The prosecutor announced he is seeking 3-8 years imprisonment for all of the defendants.
Attorney Dr. David Libai, who is defending Feiner, challenged the prosecution’s position, pointing out to the court that while his client acted improperly, the bribery money he received was in the form of a donation to the Yad Sarah medical equipment loan organization. In the case of Feiner, the bribe money was given entirely to Beis Malka. Libai feels the two should be sentenced only to community service and not a jail term.
The court however felt compelled to address the prosecution, with Justice Rosen explaining he cannot live with himself if the court addresses the crimes of the others in the same fashion as Lupoliansky and Feiner. Rosen called on the prosecutor to remove the two from the group of defendants.
Sentencing is expected in two weeks.

They were convicted through “guilt by association.” The real crime wasn’t accepting money for tsadakah, but associating with the secular politicians who run Israel.
I hope that Lupoliansky & Feiner are innocent, but IF they
ARE guilty then I believe they should be given tough sentences since they are very public Charadim who misused their offices for their own person gain and deceived their constituents.
no Akuperman, their crime was being a charedi politician in an anti-charedi society
Yiden reading akuperma’s nonsensical pontifications might also get indicted through “guilt by association”.
You can’t criticize akuperma’s comments. TYW doesn’t let.
