Employees have announced they are unwilling to accept management’s decrees which include the firing of 2,000 employees. Beginning on Tuesday, 29 Nissan 5774, the nation’s Postal Authority is on an open-ended strike which includes the closure of all branches and a cessation in mail delivery. Postal Authority officials explain “Today’s reality compels implementing a drastic austerity plan”.
If you are waiting for a special package you will continue to do so as beginning Tuesday, mail delivery throughout Israel has been halted by a strike. The employees of the Israel Postal Authority decided on the open-ended strike on Monday.
Postal workers explain this is the final step in their ongoing battle against management’s plan and the strike is total and without exceptions. All postal branches are shut and absolutely nothing will be delivered and no exceptions will be made.
Postal officials explain workers are being unreasonable in light of the fact the agency lost 200 million shekels over the past two years. They explain the organization must downsize and become more efficient if it is to remain viable.
In order for the state to continue funding the quasi-governmental agency, it demands the dismissal of 2,000 of the Postal Authority’s 7,000 employees. The remainder will have to live with a salary cut.
Shimon Ferjon, the postal service’s national labor leader announced on Monday that the workers have taken cuts and have been going along with calls to streamline but at present conditions for workers have become intolerable.
Management explains there is no alternative considering the bleak financial situation of the Israel Postal Authority, demanding the dismissals and salary cuts. Management accuses labor officials of being unreasonable since they absolutely must understand the dismissal of 2,000 workers and salary cuts are non-negotiable if the Postal Authority is to continue operating.

well, I am waiting for a package which was delayed for a month already and arrived to the post office yesterday only to find itself with a strike today. The postal service in israel never had normal service, even in its good days.
agreed. revamp is overdue
Even before they fired the workers, the service was lousy. Almost anytime one goes into a branch of the post office, he has to wait a minimum of 20 minutes, and usually more. Most post offices have the capacity to have at least 4 tellers, but only 1 or 2 are present.
Always have to wait at least an hour at the post office just to send anything.
It would be nice if they made a paid express way. Even at 50-100 shekels to use the service, they can make a load of money this way and save some the inconvenience of waiting.
