Campaign 2016: Texas Gov. Perry Says He Needs Prep

perryTexas Gov. Rick Perry says he’ll need more preparation if he runs for president again in 2016.

Perry says he learned a lot when he ran last time. He tells CBS “This Morning” it was a humbling experience.

The Republican governor says he recommends not having major back surgery six weeks before you start running. And he says that whether he runs for president or not, preparation on foreign policy, economics and other issues will serve him well.

Perry had a lot of support when he ran in 2012. But he entered the race late and lost his edge after making several verbal blunders during the GOP debates.

The Texas governor is in New York this week promoting Texas business.

  1. Perry’s potential campaign is DOA. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed so someone with a little sechel should inform him.

  2. He has much better national security credentials than many other candidates. He’s also is an ex-Democrat whic appeals to many within the conservative base, since they are also ex-Democrats. He’s been governor of the second largest state (based on size, population or economy). He has clear “main street” rather than “country club” credentials, and that is more the divide in the Republicans than “tea” versus “wall street.”

Also if someone exciting but with no meaningful experience (Rand Paul, Ben Carson, whatever) emerges, they might want someone with experience to balance the ticket.
