A trial is set to start in a Syracuse court for the New York City lawyer who represented Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that 63-year-old Stanley Cohen is scheduled to stand trial starting Monday in federal court on charges of trying to obstruct the IRS by under reporting cash payments from his clients.

Federal prosecutors say Cohen didn’t report cash payments totaling $35,000 he received in 2008 and 2010.

Cohen has pleaded not guilty. He has said federal authorities filed the charges in retaliation for his criminal defense work that has included representing people charged with terrorism.

Cohen represented bin Laden’s son-in-law, who was convicted March 26 in Manhattan for his role as al-Qaida’s chief spokesman.
