Three people are dead after shootings at Jewish-related locations in the Kansas City area. Authorities confirm that a suspect is in custody.
One of the dead was killed in the parking lot of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. A second person died at Village Shalom.
Authorities also confirmed that a one person was undergoing surgery at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. It wasn’t immediately clear whether that one person died in surgery and was one of the three dead or was a fourth person shot.
A suspect was arrested at the Valley View Park Elementary School, which is a mile away from Village Shalom. KCTV5’s Bonyen Lee says the suspect appeared to yell “Heil Hitler” as he was being led away in handcuffs by Overland Park police.
One shooting was reported about 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, according to an Overland Park Fire Department spokesman. This happened at the Lewis and Shirley White Theatre inside the center.
About 75 people were inside the theatre, most of them children.
Teens were auditioning for KC SuperStar and parents were frantically trying to get to their children.
In addition, rehearsals were underway for a production of To Kill a Mockingbird when shots rang out at the theater.
A second shooting was reported at Village Shalom, which is an assisted living center at 5500 West 123rd St.
Worried relatives of residents tell KCTV5 that Village Shalom was placed on lockdown.
Phyllis Cantor, who is undergoing rehabilitation at Village Shalom, said she heard the sound of sirens. She said many police officers are at the scene and their focus appears to be on a white car in the parking lot.

Please consider changing the picture for this article, as the under tone of such a picture demonizes guns in general, and guns have nothing to do with crime its the people who use them. a picture of police crime scene tape might be a more accurate caption photo

#1,
“and guns have nothing to do with crime”
Riight. I’m sure if the guy had been wielding a knife the results would have been exactly the same right?
i heard on abc that 3 people are dead

srry thats http://abcnews.go.com/US/reported-dead-shootings-kansas-jewish-community-center/story?id=23310932
eric55 – with three dead, this is your concern? Three human lives taken, families destroyed, and the YWN post that brings this heartbreaking news should have that as the first comment?
3.
THE rosha would still use a gun because he doesn’t give a rat’s you know what about law! Only moronic democrats think that gun free zones help. ROTFLMHO yeah because shooters see the signs and say, “ah rats it’s a no gun zone, I can’t carry my gun there.” FOOLISH PEOPLE!
What horrible news.
How many gundeaths a year will it take before America realises that more guns = more death?
Stop claiming it’s for protection, America has some of ghe worst gun stats in the world.
To Bem684 i couldn’t agree with you more if it would have been a knife the outcome would have been the same. just as we saw last week in a PA school were 20 children were stabbed. do we demonize knives? of course not should we demonize guns? of course not should we demonize deranged monsters who will use any tool necessary to inflict their horror? of course
Are all/any of the people jewish?
If there would have been nearby one good person with a gun, the shooter would have likely been stopped after his first shot.
2 other innocent people would have been saved.
It is near impossible to successfully keep guns out of the bad-guy’s hands.
The criminal’s will always manage to get a firearm.
The best solution now is to put more guns into the hands of Law-abiding citizens. (The “Good guys”.)
There is a “Bumper sticker” that really makes sense to me:
“When every seconds counts, the Police are only minutes away!”
Eric55,
Jerk, guns do kill. In general, And It’s about time for even tougher gun control laws. We need them off the streets, in general.
Guns should be used with a lcense only for Security purposes PERIOD.

I was just there on a trip a week ago, lovely nice out-of-town frum community. This is so shocking and horrific, I daven this year that no more such incidents ever happen to klal yisroel again
#3 actually why not? Just recently their was a knife attack and people were killed as well.
Were any Jews injured? The Kansas City newspaper said that at two of the dead were Christians.
#3 didn’t you hear about the mass knife stabbing spree last week? It doesn’t matter what weapons are used, it’s about making sure they don’t end up in the hands of the bad guys
#3
Probably.
Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
At least 2 of the 3 who were niftar were not yidden. That doesn’t make it any less of a tragedy and in some respects its even more tragic for goyim to be killed in the mistaken belief they were yidden.
Two of the three victims, a grandfather and his 14 year old grandson, were members of a church group.
We welcome them and allow them to use our facilities and one of their own guns them down. How ironic is that?
Please, stop repeating the outrageous NRA propaganda. Yes knives can kill also, but not as much as guns. Ever wondered why soldiers have guns instead of swords? More good guys with guns all over the place? It would not help. It takes time to react. Before the good guys react a number of people could be dead. Besides, more lunatics would have guns, if we pushed for wider gun ownership. What does help is a very tight gun PROHIBITION. It works for lots of countries all over the world.

#20: Please, stop repeating the outrageous left-wing, bleeding heart propaganda. Put all the gun controls you want into place, and guess what? The criminals will STILL have the guns, will STILL kill people, innocent people who could have used guns to defend themselves will not, and will be slaughtered, R”L.
I believe in gun control: a good sight, and two hands!!
אין הערוד ממית אלא החטא ממית
I’m not placing any blame on any specific individual, Jewish or not. Just the generalities pro or con gun control should be decided by this maamar chazal.
Yes, I agree. I hope they catch the gun that committed this crime. I hope the gun is charged with a hate crime. I hope the gun gets a life sentence. I hope the guns family losses their pension & retirement. This gun must be taught a lesson. I hope you law abiding gun owners are listening.
You Lefties are CRAZY!
