Gov. Cuomo’s Office Takes Aim At Filthy Subway Ads

subNew York transit officials are agreeing to reconsider their advertising standards after a top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo objected to what many are calling a “highly-inappropriate” ad.

Howard Glaser, Cuomo’s director of state operations, wrote to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Tuesday asking the agency to take action after the New York Daily News wrote about the revealing advertisement.

In the letter, Glaser noted that thousands of children use the transit system every day.

“The MTA is a public conveyance, subsidized by $190 million annually in the state budget, plus over $5 billion in dedicated taxes,” Glaser wrote. “The public has a right to expect that the MTA will strive for a family-friendly environment.”

In a statement an MTA spokesman says the agency understands Cuomo’s concerns and will review its advertising standards.

  1. Why should the MTA strive for a family-friendly environment, when billboards all over the city portray anything but a family-friendly environment?

  2. Good, it is a public area and ads should be family friendly. Some of those Ads are so disgusting in inappropriate, yet are broadcast in public for everyone to see. Good call and clean up those ads

  3. #1,
In the search for reasons why should they, Ask why shouldn’t they.

Do you really want to see dirty pictures at your corner??

It’s time for Family-Friendly environment. Tnx Gov. Cuomo on that one!
