The family and a representative for an 84-year-old Chinese man bloodied during an arrest for jaywalking in New York City say he will not face prosecution.
Elizabeth OuYang, President of the Justice for Kang Wong Committee, says the Manhattan District Attorney decided on Wednesday to not prosecute Wong.
Wong’s family released a statement saying they were gratified with the decision.
Wong’s lawyer claims the immigrant was hospitalized in January with a head injury after officers pushed him against a wall, beat him and threw him to the ground.
Police Commissioner William Bratton has said he wasn’t aware of any excessive force used by officers and that witnesses claimed the injuries occurred from a “fall to the ground.”
The district attorney’s office declined to comment.
