Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman during a visit to a Brooklyn shul serving Russian-speaking mispallalim stated “There may be a Russian-speaking prime minister in Israel in the near future”.
He told his audience that Israel is a land of opportunity no less than they found in the United States. “Look, I began as a common laborer and 30 years later I am the prime minister” he explained. He cited other examples, including Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.
“One day we will have a Russian-speaking foreign minister, a Russian-speaking president and in the near future there may be a Russian-speaking prime minister” he stated.
Aides to the senior minister told the media the statement was a general one and in no way reflects any specific plan.

“Look, I began as a common laborer and 30 years later I am the prime minister”.
He isn’t the prime minister.
“One day we will have a Russian-speaking foreign minister, a Russian-speaking president and in the near future there may be……”
Lieberman speaks Russian.
