Police have filed a criminal complaint against three Israeli diplomats following an incident involving an airport immigration official in New Delhi, the Times of India reports.
A scuffle broke out on Shabbos as consular officials were clearing the airport to catch a flight to Kathmandu. According to police, the Israelis continued arguing with the Indian official at the immigration assistance counter. The report adds that after their papers were cleared they became verbally abusive as a result of what the diplomats perceived were unacceptable delays in processing them.
Because they enjoy diplomatic immunity the three diplomats were not arrested but a case has been opened. Local police add that they have closed circuit TV footage to back their version of events. Police add that in line with protocol, the case will be handed over to the Foreign Ministry which will follow the appropriate protocol.
