Police say a large crowd gathered outside a SoHo store for the release of a pricey new sneaker had to be dispersed when it spilled into the street.
Police say about 300 people lined up in front of the Supreme New York on Lafayette Street around 5 p.m. Wednesday. By 8 p.m., the crowd had nearly doubled. Police say they dispersed the crowd due to safety concerns. The store was closed at the time.
The $250 Supreme/Nike Air Foamposite was to go on sale at the store on Thursday. WABC-TV says Supreme later issued a statement saying that due to public safety concerns the sneaker would only be available at 11 a.m. Thursday on its web site.
Police say there were no arrests or injuries.
