sbusOn Thursday April 3, 2014 the Ramapo Police Department will join law enforcement officers from around the state by participating in “Operation Safe Stop.” Police officers will be in marked and unmarked patrol vehicles on select bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints. Officers will be looking for and issuing tickets to motorists who fail to stop for school buses that are picking up or dropping off children.

The fine for a first-time offender of illegally passing a school bus is $250 – $400, 5 points on your license, and/or possibly 30 days in jail.

  1. Very welcome but long overdue.
The amount of times I see people passing busses in front of my house is scary sad.
It only takes one idiot to kill my son.

  2. Sorry, but being one of the Monsey bus drivers I see this as a PR advertisement. Why do we need a special day for this enforcement? We face this problem whole year round. Don’t get carry away of this stupid behavior. We want constant protection for our children, not PR garbage:???!!!
