Shomrim volunteers were invited to the Metropolitan Police Helicopter Base (ASU) after many successful incidents where Shomrim members surrounded an area almost immediately after a crime had taken place and the Helicopter then located and directed local Police officers to arrest the suspect within that area.
On Thursday March 27th, Shomrim were introduced to the Helicopter’s Unit Executive Officer – Inspector Richard Brandon by Community Activist and supporter of Shomrim Mr Chuni Kahn of Kahn Travel, and spent some time absorbing the history of the MPS Helicopter Base which used to be operated as an Army Base.
Shomrim volunteers were given an up-close view of the Aircraft and its state of the art technology; the volunteers were then taken into the Helicopter’s control room, and explained in detail how the system operates, including the amazing on-board thermal imaging camera and the live down link of the helicopter’s cameras.
Shomrim Liaison Mr Isaac Kornbluh said: “This was an eye opener. When you see the Helicopter above you don’t really understand how they operate. This was a very informative tour; being invited here shows how much the Met Police appreciate the efforts of the dedicated Shomrim volunteers to keep the local areas safe”.
On Friday the MPS Helicopter Twitter account (with over 80.4k followers) wrote “. @ShomrimOfficial Hope you enjoyed the visit and found it informative.”
