The New York State legislature is nearing the end of its negotiations on the state budget with Governor Cuomo. Included in the budget are several items that—if passed—could provide hundreds of millions of dollars to Jewish day schools! Some of these items are the Education Investment Tax Credit (EITC) as well as a $317 Million Dollar Technology Bond which will give Yeshivos $770 per student and CAP & MSR- two streams of funding that go DIRECTLY to Yeshivos and are the biggest form of aid that Yeshivos get on an annual basis.
OU Advocacy-Teach NYS has been in Albany EVERY DAY of the Legislative Session. Their employees eat and sleep in Albany and have made major headway in advocating for Yeshivos across the State.
Now it’s crunch time. Jeff Leb, the New York Director for the OU-Teach NYS told us that NOW is the most important time to contact your elected officials so that they will pass on the message to the leadership of the Legislature. Here is a link to find out who your legislator is and to generate an automatic email that will go directly to their inbox. http://bit.ly/1gnurts
Here is a video that OU Advocacy-Teach NYS released, discussing the outreach that they have been doing and discussing what’s at stake.
We Urge you to take a moment to contact your representative. It could have a huge effect on the amount of funding that is allocated to our Yeshivos!
