Israel: Lawsuit Follows Failed Avocado Therapy and Death

avocadoThe family of a deceased man who received advice from a Kupat Cholim Clalit physician to treat abdominal pain with avocado is suing. According to the Kikar Shabbos report, the family is claiming medical negligence.

The patient arrived at a HMO office in Maale Adumim and explained he was having abdominal pain. The doctor gave him a prescription for “Kal Beten”, a drug that assists digestion.

According to a MyNet report, the lawsuit filed by attorney Yaron Moiyal it alleges that after the patient complained the abdominal pain was increasing the doctor at the Clalit clinic instructed him to eat avocado.

The lawsuit explains the avocado did nothing to assist the man, who was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital where doctors detected his kidneys were not functioning. He died a few hours after the diagnosis was made despite all life-saving efforts.

The family maintains the HMO failed to conduct a comprehensive medical exam and failed to send him for lab work, leading to an undiagnosed medical problem that resulted in death.

  1. the best of doctors do make mistakes and patients should not treat the word of doctors as the word of G-d.

Patients must realize when the doctor’s diagnosis is not helping and seek other help.
