NYPD Boss: Police Stations ‘Deplorable’

bratPolice Commissioner William Bratton is calling building conditions in many of New York City’s aging precinct stations “deplorable.”

Bratton made the remark on Friday while testifying at a City Council hearing.

Bratton told council members that many of the police stations in the city’s 76 precincts are in desperate need of plumbing, electrical and other upgrades after “a century of neglect.” He said others lack adequate air conditioning.

But Bratton also said budget constraints will prevent the work from happening anytime soon.

  1. I wonder if he’s seen the 70 on Lawrence Avenue which is beyond deplorable. It’s so old that there’s a part of it where they used to stable the horses at the turn of the century. To make matters worse the entire block aside from the station house belongs to UCP, an organization that services the handicapped. This morning the spillover from the UCP busses on that block tied up a southbound lane on Ocean Parkway.

Mr. Bratton – it’s way past time for a new 70 stationhouse.
