No, it was not a Purim stunt. Shas MK Eli Yishai used the podium during a Knesset plenum session to announce to his colleagues in the opposition and coalition why a new coalition should be established, one headed by Aryeh Deri as prime minister.
In his weekly no-confidence motion address, Yishai spoke of the need of replacing the current administration, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

1. Motions of no confidence require naming an alternative prime minister.
2. For Deri, or any Hareidi, to be Prime Minister, the parties now existent as Shas and Yahadut ha-Torah would need to be relatively united and have around 30 seats at least. Then instead of bartering support for goodies, they could offer goodies for support. That’s not likely for another generation (based on birth rates).
“No, it was not a Purim stunt.”
That was a nasty and unnecessary and effective untrue comment. There is no ill will or bad blood between them as this implied. They have always been on good terms despite the sheker and loshon hora spread by the Israeli media.
Funny, I always thought that about Yishai (that he should be PM)…now that he showed his anivus I hold that would be a great idea, even more so…
if all those that attended the levaye of the godol hador hagaon Rav Ovadia ztl would vote in his memory for his party and all those that attended the azteres would vote for a united torah party, it could actually happen. If not, it is our own fault to oust the anti Torah politicians and we can’t complain. Let’s daven for achdus!
It sounds “funny” since there is no way Deri could become prime minister at this time, and most Americans don’t understand how motions of no-confidence work. It is also funny to have a legislative body working on a day in which most Israelis participate in the minhag of consuming alcoholic beverages (legislating under the influence?).
How about instead of davening for achdus we start acting with achdus?
Davening without changing behavior is useless.
