Once again Bayit Yehudi leader Minister Naftali Bennett will have opportunity to comply with a request from a prominent rav in his community. Tzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita on Wednesday morning 10 Adar II sent a letter to Bennett asking to permit party members to vote their conscience in the draft bill vote later in the day.

Rav Eliyahu feels that party discipline should not be invoked as is being done, and that each representative should vote as s/he wishes due to the nature of the legislation.

The rav speaks of feeling the pain of the Torah World and calls on Bennett to “display leadership” and permit his faction members to vote as they wish.

The rav’s request comes after Bayit Yehudi MK Yoni Chetboun announced that he will not vote for the draft bill and he will pay the consequences for her views the bill as being anti-Torah.
