Benny Rabinowitz Explains The Yated Assault Against Yishuvim

yatedBenny Rabinowitz, viewed as a spokesman of Maran HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita spoke with Moti Lavi on Kol Berama Radio’s Eight-to-Ten program on Monday morning, 8 Adar II 5774.

An article appearing in Yated Neeman on erev Shabbos attacked the yishuvim and the cost of maintaining them, writing, “If there is a drain on the national economy it is the money that flows like water via hidden channels using expertly hidden means to put another caravan into place at a dangerous junction, for the expensive paving of another approach road to a desolate hilltop and all of this without even speaking about the security burden”.

Rabinowitz came under fire as many feel that now Degel Hatorah is taking revenge against the residents of yishuvim in response to the actions of Bayit Yehudi. Rabinowitz explained “this is simply not true”, pointing out that “Gedolei Yisrael over the years were always of the opinion that one may forfeit land for true peace.” He stated this was the position of Maran HaGaon HaRav Elazar Menachem Mann Shach ZT”L and Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.

Rabinowitz continued, stating “the hashkafa of the frum tzibur became blurred over the years for we sat as coalition partners with the right-wing and today many feel our natural home is with the right-wing when this is not so”. He continued by pointing out that Maran Rav Shach was adamantly opposed to the Oslo Agreement, but he did favor land concessions for “True peace” for pikuach nefesh takes priority to land.

Rabinowitz feels that today’s realities have revealed the stark differences in hashkafa between the chareidim and the dati leumi community and this is at the core of the machlokes. “The chareidim have a mandate in Knesset to protect and preserve limud Torah and if this means land concessions, so be it”. Rabinowitz continues explaining that “we are now all aware regarding Bayit Yehudi and all the promises were lies, a big bluff. We are not bound to them as we never signed any agreements committing to support them. Bayit Yehudi is far worse than Lapid for the latter tell us who he is and what his plan is… For as long as we could assist, and when we could, we gave them (yishuvim) much more than they were entitled to but now, that they have taken our money for limud Torah we must preserve the yeshivos”.

Rabinowitz concludes by mentioning “Shas’ conspicuous silence, including party leader Aryeh Deri”.

Lavi:

Do you expect them to destroy the bridges they have been building with the yishuvim during recent months?

Shas spokesman Yitzchak Sudri:

To Shas the most important is Toras Yisrael and the dati leumi signed on with our enemies, to my sorrow.

  1. All settlements, including ones founded earlier such as Tel Aviv, seriously annoy the Arabs. The ones in the West Bank founded recently annoy them more than most, but in all fairness what the Arabs object to is less the specifics of settlements than the fact the national government of Eretz Yisrael is controlled by non-Muslims. The result is a state of permanent war. And a state of permanent war drains all other resources from a country and coerces its citizens to be a nation of warriors.

Once our little children played with their Tatti’s gemara and pretended to learn since children like to play at being grown up. Now they play with toy rifles and pretended to kill, since that’s what a grown up is in zionist’s medinah.

Frankly, if the settlers expresses a willingness to live at peace with the Palestinians, pay for the land (much of which was confiscated from private owners, almost all of which transfered to Israeli ownership without permission of the previous Arab owners), and accept a non-zionist state, then the settlers could be part of the solution. Instead they are the leaders in the assault on the hareidim community and the advocates of continous warfare.

  2. It is sad that this discussion has to take place on the backs of a machlokes however this is a discussion worth having.

Rav Shach was not just in favor of land for peace he was also opposed to settelment construction. He fought hard and strong against the “chareidi settelment” of Immanuel.

Unfortunatley many Chareidim ignored Rav Shach’s approach and built two of the largest setterlment blocs, Modin Illit and Beitar Illit. Yated does not explain how it will handle the expenses of these “chareidi settelments”.

Hopefully Chareidim will now return to their roots and recognize that settelment activity causes more harm than good. Maybe this is the silver lining in this entire debacle.

  3. The lives of millions of Jewish people in Eretz HaKodesh are in mortal danger. Murderers & terrorists are everywhere within the borders & surrounding Eretz Yisroel. The lives of men, women & children are destroyed with impunity by subhuman beasts. Who, I ask you, today, in their right mind, can see those monsters offering “true peace” to us? Go ask Hitler and his followers of today for “true peace”! This is a situation of Pikuach Nefesh, saving not one, but thousands & millions of neshomos. The options today in hindsight are not land for peace. Perhaps that’s the way it looked 20 years ago to some. Recent history has destroyed that notion. The huge buffer zone the Sinai desert was given back, & savages are bombing from Gaza into Jewish communities & homes tearing Jewish children apart. Go ask Hamas for “true peace”!!
Daas Torah is clear today: Pikuach Nefesh doche kol Hatorah kula. Torah says, Hakodosh Boruch Hu Himself says, forgo my Torah! save Jewish lives!! It is not an issue of Zionist land of Israel. The issue at hand is “do all you can [tut als vos ihr kent] from a military standpoint to protect Jewish lives. If that means holding on to the Jordan Valley – do that! If that means do not give away the very heartland of Eretz haKodesh as a launching site – do that!
This Daas Torah was said 40 years ago. Now in hindsight all can perceive the Ruach Hakodesh expressed at that time, & never so vivid as in today’s situation. Of course Hashem will help! But don’t bring the murderers into you guest room!!

  4. (much of which was confiscated from private owners, almost all of which transfered to Israeli ownership without permission of the previous Arab owners)—-It may pay to review and learn the pre-1948 history of the JORDANIAN enterprise and what land if any belonged to them, since they were the ‘guardians’ of Yehuda & Shomron at that period of time.

The first settlement outside of the Old City after Mishkanot was Meah Shearim and Sharei Chesed. The Bostoner Rebbe zt”l will tell you of his childhood in the settlement of Sharei Chesed the wall surrounding the neighborhood to protect them from terrorists, Arab thieves, etc.

Is the Charedi kehilla willing to expulse all Jews from Beitar, Kiryat Sefer, Moshav Mattiyahu, Ramat Shlomo and Nevai Yakov? We know the answer to that question so therefore the hype against Bet El, Shilo, Kiryat Arab (Biblical homeland) is on the same page as the above.

Its a perfect way for the YATED to keep the flames burning and throw in some extra charcoal to the Machlokes.

  5. NOT EXACTLY!!! AND THIS IS WHY RAV STEINMANN IS GETTING WRONG MESSAGES AND INFO. CUS EVEN HERE, RABINOWITZ FAILED TO OMIT THAT THE DL COMMUNITY WAS INSULTED HOW HE ADDRESSED RAV DRUKMAN… ALL THE IMP INFO HE LEFT OUT. WHILE I AGREE WITH A LOT HE WRITES HERE. IT IS DEFINITELY A REPHRASING OF HIS ORIGINAL COMMENTS AND GROSS DISHONESTY.

  6. #8,9 geula – I understand your opinion and you may be right, but why do you feel the need to scream? Do you think no one will hear you otherwise?
