mishtThe family of an Elad avreich who left his home and did not returned was concerned the entire Shabbos for his well-being. The avreich left home on erev Shabbos at 14:00, heading to the shul to daven mincha. He never returned.

The wife of the avreich, a man in his 30s, informed police that her husband explained when he left he did not feel well. Police on Shabbos updated the appropriate people on the missing avreich, and a command center was set up on motzei Shabbos on Rav Meir Street. Ichud Hatzalah and Hatzalah Gush Dan volunteers became involved in the search. At 20:53 the missing avreich returned home.

Degel Hatorah’s Avi Stern was in touch with police in Elad on Shabbos and he consulted with HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Grossman, mora d’asra of Elad. The rav ruled that foot searches should get underway on Shabbos afternoon and that search was expanded on motzei Shabbos.

Kikar Shabbos reports that the avreich traveled to Bnei Brak where he sat in a shul and learned the entire Shabbos without leaving to eat, with the avreich explaining “This is the response to Lapid”.

  1. What a Kiddush Hashem! Lapid must be shaking.
Causing anguish to his wife and family, causing others to be mechalel shabbos are minor inconveniences compared to his very noble and commendable deed!

  2. Come on, folks. Isn’t it possible that he told his wife his plans, but she didn’t hear or understand? or that he sent a message home via a friend, but the friend forgot to deliver the message? That sort of stuff has happened to me personally sometimes.

  3. This is the reason every yid should carry at least a “kosher” cellphone so that they can stay in touch with the family and avoid these kinds of circumstances which create such stress and result in others being mechallel Shabbos. A simple telephone call home Shabbos morning once he decided to stay in learn would have saved much angst and avodided ruining others’ shabbosim.

  4. #4. Are you serious? Blame Lapid for this guys stupidity? It’s noble to cause others to be Mechalel Shabbos and to cause anguish to his wife? That’s aside from him fasting unnecessarily on Shabbos. The guy needs serious help.

#1. when you’re proven wrong, what will you say then?

  5. #10 You need to chill. I was being sarcastic. I would hope most people are sophisticated enough to see the sarcasm.
