Rand Paul: Obama Is Trampling Civil Liberties

randKentucky Sen. Rand Paul says President Barack Obama is running roughshod over Americans’ civil liberties.

Paul on Friday told an annual gathering of conservative leaders and activists that Obama had violated the Constitution by backing drone strikes on American citizens and the collection of millions of Americans’ telephone records in a secret surveillance program.

Paul quoted the Founding fathers as well as Pink Floyd. He urged conservatives to join his efforts to stop what he deemed unconstitutional measures.

In his words: “Government unrestrained by law becomes nothing short of tyranny.”

The Kentucky senator was an afternoon speaker Friday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Maryland. He is among several prospective presidential candidates at the three-day conference and attracted the largest crowd so far.

  1. Republicans who argue for small government in economic matters, but ignore the idea of small government when it comes to civil liberties run the risk of looking like hypocrites. If you favor small government, you should also be concerned about civil liberties. This is an issue that the other Republicans should pick up on.

  2. What about all the rules that Obama is changing mid stream? All the executive orders he signed without congress being involved. These are all unconstitutional, and he swore to uphold the constitution. Why can’t we impeach this monster??? If we wait till his term is over, the damage will be too great!

  3. Quoting Pink Floyd, whose lead member Roger Waters is a leader of the boycott Israel movement? Paul’s father has a history of anti-Semitic writings and had an awful anti-Israel record as a Congressman; I guess the son is following in the footsteps of the father. 🙁

  4. Why doesn’t he criticize Bush in the same manner, he was the first doing it.

He might be right, and if he wins ( which the straw poll conducted by who can bring more followers to the room, and never indicated a winner, showed) we may for the first time have a president who thinks out of the box of the 2 political parties.
