Former Sen. Rick Santorum says Republicans lose elections when they nominate moderates.
Santorum ran for president in 2012 as a social conservative and is weighing another bid. He said Friday the GOP should not sacrifice conservatism in an effort to expand the party’s appeal.
The former senator says John McCain and Mitt Romney were moderate nominees who still lost.
Santorum says middle class voters stayed home on Election Day because Romney didn’t speak to them. Santorum says President Barack Obama won re-election because economically vulnerable voters were afraid of Romney.
Santorum is speaking to conservative activists near Washington at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

GOP loses when it gets hung up on issues other than small government and economics. Romney and McCain were both big government Republicans, and were hurt by many Republicans who wanted to talk about matters pertaining to what one does in the bedroom rather than issues pertaining people’s wallets and pocket books.
i guess thats why he lost his senate seat
From the guy who lost his last election by 17% — in a state Barack Obama would win by 10% against McCain and 5% against Romney.
Rick Santorum = LOSER.
His twisted theory is repudiated by the recent senate defeats in Nevada and Delaware of tea party nuts.
“the recent senate defeats in Nevada and Delaware of tea party nuts.”
Also Colorado, Missouri, and Indiana.
However, they did win in Texas and Utah. And Rand Paul, who is worse than a Tea Party nut, won in Kentucky.
