Beit Shemesh police have summoned Yitzchak Rever to the station for questioning over a large election poster hanging outside Beit Shemesh apartment buildings. Rever is the head of the campaign to reelect Mayor Rabbi Moshe Abutbul.
The objectionable posters show Yesh Atid leader Finance Minister Yair Lapid with the words “This man is counting on your apathy”, adding the tzibur “must defend itself”. The source of the posters is anonymous as no political party’s name is mentioned.
It appears Beit Shemesh police believe this sign may violate laws prohibiting sedition. Yesh Atid officials maintain the signs are anonymous and larger than permitted. Election Committee Chairman Jubran agrees, and has ordered them removed immediately.
Jubran explained this is not the first election he is presiding over and the large anonymous signs on building walls are a violation of election law.
