A group of business students at Yeshiva University are on a mission: to embrace the spirit of Purim by fundraising for multiple Jewish charities while supporting locally owned small Jewish businesses. Mishloach Now, a brand new way to buy Mishloach Manot online for Purim will do just that. The team developed a product that fuses together their favorite unique and gourmet products from across the country. The business students have created the infrastructure to assemble and process orders to ship, just in time for Purim.
This effort, spearheaded by Mendel Lazaros, an accounting major, was inspired by his father, who has devoted his entire life to Jewish outreach and philanthropy in Framingham, MA. Lazaros envisioned a way of combining two of the paradigm commandments of Purim, mishloach manot, and matanot le’evyomin (gifts to the poor.)
Mishloach Now is expected to raise thousands for Jewish charities and will provide access to nationally acclaimed gourmet kosher products from across the country.
The students have partnered with some of the most notable Jewish non-profits across the United States, including: Gift of Life, Chai Lifeline, Save a Child’s Heart, Children of Chernobyl, Friendship Circle, Amit, Yeshiva University, CJF and many more. A list of the organizations can be found on the website through the ‘charities’ tab.
They allow customers to donate to the charity of their choosing with a promotional code tool on the website. “It’s as easy as putting in the promo code at checkout, and your donation goes where you want” said Lazaros.
Items in the basket come from all across the country and include: Ricki’s Cookie Corner from Memphis, TN, Le Chocolatier from Miami, FL, Glatt Kosher Beef Jerky from Baltimore, assorted dried fruits from Brooklyn NY, Ziggy’s Kettle Corn from Borough Park, NY, and Teenie Beenies from Memphis, TN. All products are certified Kosher, the Beef Jerky is Glatt Kosher, and all other products are parve.
