A Jewish father and son were left shaken on motzei shabbos after antisemitic bile was spewed at them as they were walking home from Avos U’Banim.
Sources tell YWN that the pair were barely 100 feet from the Manhattan Beach Shtiebel when an unknown individual began yelling unpublishable insults and slurs against Jews from inside a nearby playground.
The father and son hastened their pace, but the verbal attacks followed them down the block.
The incident has left many in the community on edge, with some Orthodox Jewish residents afraid of what might happen next.
“Incidents such as these have become commonplace in Brighton Beach,” one anxious resident told YWN. “There has been a pattern of incidents that have shaken this community to its core, though few outsiders are aware of it.”
“It’s an epidemic,” another resident told YWN. “We’re not sissies. This is out of line, and it must be dealt with accordingly.”

What exactly does anyone expect to be done about this? What could the police do, if they were on the spot? If all this guy did was yell insults, he hasn’t committed any crime. This is America, we can say whatever we like; hurt feelings are not injuries.

To Nilhouse: Yelling threats IS a crime, or an arrestable violation.
Milhouse, the 1A doesn’t necessarily protect all speech. Threats and intimidation are not protected speech.
Not Getting Involved: This keeps happening because under the Democrats, we live in a lawless society, where the perpetrators are protected. There was a time when police would break some heads for this kind of thing but these days, police don’t bother with minor crimes because the criminals don’t get punished.

Huju and Itchik, what are you talking about? What threats? What intimidation? There is no mention of either of those things. Yelling abuse is absolutely protected. Even “threats” can only be illegal if they are real, actual threats, that a reasonable person would seriously believe the person intended to carry out. Yelling abuse doesn’t count, even if it did contain what could be literally taken in other contexts as a threat.
People don’t seem to understand that the first amendment has a very small list of very narrow exceptions, and there are no more. Anything else is protected. Neither the police nor the lower courts is allowed to invent new exceptions, or to stretch the existing ones. And citing Holmes’ infamous dictum about “falsely crying fire in a theater” automatically means you lose your argument.

To Millhous: I stand by my comment. I don’t know what exactly was said, and I presume you don’t either, but if the shouts included threats of assault, that is a violation or misdemeanor for which the shouter/speaker can be arrested and prosecuted.
And, by the way, there were assaults and threats against Jews before Biden was president.
