Huge Fire In Central Jerusalem: Mother & Babies Evacuated From Bikur Cholim

A massive fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at a factory in central Jerusalem.

A large number of firefighting forces are working in the area in an attempt to quell the flames.

Due to the fear that the fire will spread, new mothers and their babies were evacuated from the nearby Bikur Cholim Hospital as well as the residents of a hostel next to the factory. Streets near the site of the fire have been closed to traffic.

The factory, which is owned by Chareidim, has apparently been completely destroyed by the fire.

Ynet reported that one patient gave birth outside the hospital to a premature baby during the evacuation. Baruch Hashem, the mother and baby are both in good condition.

A statement from Shaare Tzedek Hospital said: “Following the fire that broke out in the buildings adjacent to the Bikur Cholim campus, no damage was caused to the building, the infrastructure, and of course to the patients hospitalized there. As a precautionary measure for the patients, it was decided to move them temporarily to the Shaare Tzedek building.”

  1. 147’s speculation may actually be correct, although there is no clear evidence thusfrar. However, over the past decade, we have read multiple stories about mindless yidden setting up temporary matzoh bakeries adjacent to shuls, yeshivos, other mosdos and even in residential areas. Industrial scale ovens put out an incredible amount of heat and require powerful commercial venting systems. Most important, if the most clueless chareidim understand that such temporary bakeries are subject to strict regulation by municipal inspectors. While the zeal of some ehrliche yidden to engage in matzoh baking is admirable, their deliberate actions to put the lives and property of others at risk warrants swift punishment for its deterrent value if they fail to obtain proper permits and approvals.

  2. “147”-
people have been baking since chanukka
but if you listen to the video, it explains that it was a printing/binding factory…
