A devastating car accident on a quiet side street in the Germany Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem on Wednesday evening left two people dead and one seriously wounded.

Perhaps due to the pouring rain, a car overturned on a side street where cars typically drive at only 20-30 km/hr, instantly killing a passenger in the car, a 78-year-old man, and a nearby pedestrian, 19, who was struck by the car. The driver, a 76-year-old woman, was extricated from the car in a complex rescue process carried out in the pouring rain. She was evacuated to Shaare Tzedek Hospital in serious condition with multi-system injuries.

The accident occured on Rechov Azriel Hildesheimer at about 10 p.m. According to an initial police investigation, the car was driving relatively fast for the street and for unknown reasons, stuck a safety barrier, overturning and hitting the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was later identified as Adira Koffsky, a’h, of West Hempstead, who graduated from Central High School and was in seminary in Israel for the year at Midreshet Amudim, located in the German Colony.

The man who was killed was identified as Martin Pfeffer, z’l, a resident of Jerusalem.

  1. Many elderly people and I mean a lot, they are in desperate need for cataract surgery, maybe one eye maybe both eyes.
I know many families that the children take away the keys.
Hashem should send to all the injured a real quick Refuah Shlaima- a speedy recovery.
Hashem should help all these families during this difficult period.
