UTJ Denies Conceding On Grandchild Clause: “We’ll Support Smotrich’s Demand To Repeal It”

Contrary to a report on Monday that the UTJ party has given up on amending the Law of Return, party members say they will support Religious Zionism chairman Betzalel Smotrich’s demand to revoke the grandchild clause, Yisrael Hayom reported on Tuesday

“We won’t be the ‘goy’ who will cause him to give up on it,” party members said. “We’ll agree to a solution that is acceptable to all the religious parties.”

UTJ MKs told Arutz Sheva on Tuesday that the report claiming that the party gave up on the grandchild clause is false. “In a UTJ meeting on Monday, the MKs clarified that they will demand the revocation of the grandchild clause and cooperate with whoever will act on this issue,” they said, referring to Smotrich.

Sources in the Religious Zionism party stated: “The parties are coordinated in the importance of amending the grandchild clause.”

The Likud is opposed to revoking the grandson clause as part of the coalition agreements but is willing to establish a committee to examine the issue following the formation of the government.
