Shas leader Aryeh Deri on Monday, 17 Adar I 5774 announced the chareidim must leave the Shaked Committee. The Shas leader’s remarks came as the committee this week is going to make final decisions regarding the new chareidi draft law. Deri explained that Shas is done for he has arrived at the realization his party can no longer be a part of the process. Deri made his comments at the end of the process, aware that his representative was no longer going to have an influence, and he was correct for the committee on Tuesday, 18 Adar I 5774 voted in favor of criminal sanctions as expected.
Speaking with Kol Berama Radio, Deri explained that it appears Bayit Yehudi is selling the chareidim out and it will support criminal sanctions against talmidim who fail to comply with the new law despite many statements to the contrary during the process. Shaked has denied that deals with Yesh Atid were made weeks ago, insisting she was not favoring criminal sanctions.
“I do not have good news. It appears to be getting worse by the moment. Bayit Yehudi is not with us and all the statements and interview with the chareidi media as if they are against criminal sanctions were for naught” stated Deri. “They are aligned with [Yesh Atid MK Ofir] Shelach…” Deri concluded.
Deri explained that he personally is not a member of the committee and he receives reports from MKs Atias, Gafne and Porush. Over recent weeks the picture was a different one, one that showed Bayit Yehudi would not support criminal sanctions but now that they have come down to the wire, it appears Bayit Yehudi will accept Yesh Atid’s firm position demanding criminal sanctions.
Responding to statements from Deri that Shas has broken away from the committee, Chairwoman Ayelet Shaked stated she will continue working with all the parties involved, including Shas.
It must be added that while Deri stated Shas is done with the committee, photos of the Tuesday morning meeting show that Shaked is correct for Shas representative Atias was present at the table.

Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid are two peas in a pod. Bennet is no less of a rasha than Lapid. They are both working hand in hand in their joint attempts to destroy the Torah R”L.
Shas has always been in favor of working with the hilonim. Leaving the committee means negotiations have broken down, and Shas will be forced into being anti-zionist, in spite of itself. After 20 years of saying “we Israelis”, the zionists are say “we are Israelis, you are just hareidi scum”. Given the most Shas supporters serve in the IDF, the question is whether they will follow Shas into opposing, since if the Shas supporters now serving in the IDF cease to be loyal soldiers it would seriously undermine the IDF.
No question that Shas want every Choson to have two kallas at the same time, klal yisroel the chosson can only have one kallah the torah.
