New York City comptroller Scott Stringer called Wednesday reports about Mayor Bill de Blasio’s phone call to police officials inquiring about the arrest of a political ally, Bishop Orlando Findlayter, “problematic.”
Speaking to reporters outside City Hall, Stringer said, “I think the rule is the mayor shouldn’t be involved in any way about somebody’s arrest.”
“It’s something that, it can only be problematic. … Once a mayor makes a call like that, it’s problematic because it raises questions, even though your intentions were good, when you do make that call, you do have to answer a lot of questions.”
