Lt.-Colonel Nurit Laami did not make an effort to hide her disdain for chareidim, for she came under fire after being quoted expressing her hate for the chareidi tzibur. In November 2013, Channel 10 News correspondent Avishai Ben-Chaim reported she said “I hate all chareidim. I wish they would all die”.
At the time, when asked to comment, the IDF Spokesman explained she was out of the country and the matter would be addressed upon her return.
Kol Berama Radio decided to probe what happened in the case as at the time the chareidi radio station was told “she is out of the country”. Kol Berama was told in January 2014 that the officer was given “appropriate disciplinary action”.
However it has now been learned that her racist hashkafa has not negatively impacted her career as she was promoted to a position with considerably more responsibility, a project planning officer. Kol Berama asked on the air “what would have become of the officer’s career had she made these comments against the Ethiopian or Arab community?” In a report filed on the air on Wednesday 5 Adar I 5774, the station added the IDF Spokesman on the previous night did its best to persuade the station not to air the report and bring the incident back into the media spotlight by releasing ambiguous statements, but to no avail, the report was released and the chareidi community is angered.
MK Rav Moshe Gafne has sent an urgent query to Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon demanding an explanation for the decision as well as requesting her promotion be placed on hold.

1. If listening to a woman singing is considered, as it is in our tradition, to be the same as looking at a naked lady – and if doing so is a requirement to become an officer, it seems there is an impediment (remember we are talking about combat soldiers, for whom looking at naked ladies is at least dereliction of duty if not a war crime – we aren’t talking about medical corps).
2. If one notes that the percentage of “Dati Leumi” (Religious Zionists) in the ranks of officers appears to be inversely correlated with rank – meaning that the higher you are, the less likely you are to have a kippah (even if only in the pocket)– it appears that even orthodox Jews who are loyal zionists are subject to discrimination.
The IDF is anti-Semitic.
YWN, please keep on top of this. I am interested in this story as it develops. I am sure others are too (notwithstanding the slightly dissociative tone of commenter#1, which we have probably learned by now not to attach too much value to – i hope)
Torah Moshe – how can you make such a stupid comment?
They are protecting Jews whether you like them or not. That’s considered anti-Semitic?
What have YOU done for Klal Yisrael?
#1 is probably a NK “activist”. Let me guess Iran pays you to promote your propaganda?
#4, it’s a very smart comment, not stupid.
Zionism and its main organ, the IDF, is shmad. Shamd is, by definition, anti-Jewish. Ergo…
Learn the history and current events before you mistakenly call people’s comments “stupid”.
#5- Nah. Akuperma writes too well to be a NK member. He is simply a phony and a hypocrite commenting ALL DAY about the lack of Torah amongst anyone who is not chareidi. I would like to know when HE learns a word of that very Torah if he is so busy sitting and watching this site all day?
Yoni #4: It’s the sad truth. They cause countless deaths. And they hate Torah Jews.
I have learnt Torah, the best protection for Klal Yisroel. The IDF would do well by dismissing soldiers so they could learn Torah.
Thank you akuperma, #1. Well said.
