Captain Tal Nachman z”l, 21, from Nes Tziona was killed as a result of mistaken IDF fire as soldiers operated near the Gaza border fence.
One of the Golani Brigade soldiers involved in the operation saw an image, which he believed was a terrorist. He shouted at the ‘terrorist’ to halt and when Captain Nachman did not respond, he fired a number of shots, striking the young officer in the back. He was gravely wounded and was pronounced dead in the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva.
His father, Nasi, told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) “He was killed for nothing. At least if it occurred in a war”. The father added that this was to have been his last day in the assignment as he was scheduled to move to another post. “It appears that upstairs it was written this should be his last day with us. We have become a bereaved family. We really did our best, but perhaps we did not watch over him enough. It was important for us that he served in a combat post.”
