Gafne Says Any Reports of Compromise are Untrue

shtmResponding to the ‘Chareidi WikiLeaks’, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Rav Moshe Gafne denies any and all reports that Degel Hatorah is willing to compromise in any way regarding efforts to draft bnei yeshivos into the IDF.

Gafne admonished those who dared to leak information from the home of the gadol hador to the media, adding that all contacts with Defense Ministry and other officials are aimed at protecting the status of bnei yeshivos and nothing more. “Since the establishment of the state we have maintained a dialogue with the ministers of defense and military personnel towards protecting the status of bnei yeshivos who declare fulltime limud as their profession” he added.

“Reports of a change in the position pertaining to bnei torah are lies and have no connection to reality…”

“Those wishing to get out another picture of the chareidim and their rabbonim to advance their narrow political agenda result in an inexcusable injustice to the Torah world by showing their representatives are willing to compromise on something so basic and the most fundamental and sacred to the Jewish People, the lomdei Torah” he added.

Gafne’s words were echoed by MK Rav Yaakov Asher, who in his message to the media stated “We are witnessing a journey of a delusional crazy bunch of people who not only didn’t contribute anything to the important in any way to any important process to the Torah world, but now sabotages and undermines using nasty methods for the sole purpose of harming the battle being waged by the chareidim at present, and all under the mantle of Daas Torah which emanate from pure sectarianism while placing the entire Torah world and those who follow it in jeopardy.”

  1. Mr MK GAFNE it is time to establish a program for bochurim who are not involved in full-time learning.

The Status Quo put in place in 1948 offered deferment/exemption for only those involved in full full-time learning. Today there is a very large segment of post mesivta bochurim/marrieds who are not in the Beis Medresh, what are your plans for them??? This group is the cause of ‘today’s harsh decrees’. There has arrived the time to delve into this issue, which is growing daily by initiating programs of national, medical, security brigades. To stand up and loudly proclaim “”No COMPROMISE”” will not fix the festering wound..
