The following is from the YWN archives, 2/06/2011:
Just a few hours before the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers face off in the Superbowl, YWN had the opportunity to interview the only Shomer Shabbos Jewish Superbowl Champ – who actually played for the Green Bay Packers.
Former Superbowl Champion “Shlomo” Veingrad, formerly known as Alan Stuart Veingrad, a Shomer Shabbos Jew, was gracious enough to grant YWN an interview.
Veingrad played as an offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers for five seasons, and two seasons for the Dallas Cowboys (who won Super Bowl XXVII), playing in a total of 86 games.
In the interview, Veingrad shares with us how where he grew up, how he became Frum.
Listen to this incredible interview to find out who he will be rooting for at the Superbowl….does he still wear his Superbowl ring?… and other questions.
