Lawyers for an 84-year-old Chinese man who was arrested in New York for jaywalking have filed a claim for $5 million in damages alleging he was assaulted by police and had to be hospitalized for his injuries.
The claim was filed Monday against the New York Police Department and the city of New York by Chinese immigrant Kang Wong.
The claim alleges that officers pushed Wong against a wall, beat him and threw him to the ground, causing him to lose consciousness. Wong was hospitalized for his injuries and was bleeding from the head.
NYPD Commissioner William Bratton has said he isn’t aware of any excessive force used by officers. He says witnesses claim the injuries occurred from a “fall to the ground.” Bratton says police are investigating the incident.

Good for him, i am so happy, the policeman had no rite to beat him up so badly, what were they thinking? beating up an old man over 80? did police go crazy? you don’t go around beating up old men just because of j walking, that is insane, and he didn’t understand them as he claims, policemen have to be taught a lesson, i hope they learned something from this,it’s the good thing he didn’t die, you can’t even trust policemen anymore.
Oh, “Police are investigating.” Why wasn’t Rubashkin hired to investigate his case?
The police will not be punished but us tax payers of NYC will pay.
