Labor Court Rejects Lawsuit from Disgruntled Employee of Interior Ministry

yishThe Jerusalem Labor Court has rejected a lawsuit by a woman who claims Eli Yishai fired her when he was minister of the interior because she uncovered irregularities and possible corruption. The suit refers to the time period of 2010, when Yishai was a senior cabinet minister. The woman, a member of the minister’s staff was let go in April, claiming she learned of alleged corruption pertaining to arranging for permits for illegal foreign aliens, leading to the dismissal. She filed suit against Yishai personally and the bureau chief of the ministry.

The former ministry employee is seeking compensation to the tune of 252,584 NIS for being released from his job unjustifiably.

The woman first turned to the State Comptroller’s Office citing irregularities and possible corruption in Yishai’s office, but the complaint was closed when she filed the lawsuit since the law does not permit the comptroller to investigate a matter being adjudicated by the courts, including a beis din.

The court ruled the lawsuit smelled of revenge and a personal agenda, leading to the decision to reject the suit.
