The Beersheva District Court sentenced Asher Dahan, 45, to life in prison on Tuesday 20 Shevat 5774, for the July 2011 murder of Rabbi Elazar Abuchatzera, the Baba Elazar ZT”L. The defendant stabbed the rav to death in his office.

Dayan underwent numerous psychiatric exams and did stand trial, was convicted and sentenced. The court rejected numerous attempts to have Dahan declared mentally incompetent.

The court in its sentencing statements pointed out the defendant arrived at the rav’s home planning to murder him and efforts to declare him insane are not accepted since the act was premeditated.
