Two powerful explosions were heard at about 19:00 on Monday night the eve of 20 Shevat 5774 near the Meridian Hotel in Eilat. Police received hundreds of calls for what appears to have been a rocket attack.

Police began the search for the impact zone of the rockets, which appear to have been longer-range katyusha rockets. Police have not reported locating rocket impact areas, but it does appear the explosions were rocket fire.

During the night, a Sinai based terrorist organization boasted responsibility/ for the rocket attack.
