New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is commissioning a task force to stem the rise of pedestrian fatalities in the city.
Eleven New Yorkers have been killed in traffic accidents in the first two weeks of the year, including seven pedestrians.
De Blasio said Wednesday that certain steps will be taken immediately.
The city will use traffic cameras to issue more tickets, and not just warnings, to enforce the speed limits on certain streets.
And the NYPD will deploy more officers to enforce against serious traffic violations.
Further steps, including lowering the speed limit in certain areas, will come soon.
The plan is called “Vision Zero” with the goal of eliminating all traffic-related deaths. The mayor announced the task force while standing with relatives of children killed by crashes.

I hope they crack-down on cell & texting usage.
It should be the most exp. ticket.
They should pass a law requiring everyone to wear a reflective belt. Or at least a major awareness campaign. It is very hard to see someone at night who is dressed in black clothing. When it is raining and people wear the m’eil raincoat over their hats it is more difficult. Many people don’t wear this belt only because they don’t want to look different.
Does this mean deblassio is taking a break from the so called war on poverty which is really a war on the middle/upper class?
DeBlasio will hire public workers to stand at street corners and hold people’s henties when they cross the street.
ah yid,
Is that your answer for everything stupid, pass a law? Why are you so reliant on mommy government to help you? Do they really give a hoot about you? If you think the answer is yes, you are seriously delirious.
“The city will use traffic cameras to issue more tickets,”
Riiiight. He wants to suck more money from the people. What better excuse then for “public safety”.
