Asylum-Seekers Permitted into Knesset this Year

sudA delegation of asylum-seekers on Wednesday, 14 Shevat 5774 was permitted into Knesset this week. A request to enter Knesset to meet with lawmakers recently was turned down after Speaker Yuli Edelstein consulted with the parliament’s security officer.

MK (Meretz) Michal Rozin announced that now after representatives of the Eritreans and Sudanese asylum-seekers have been permitted into Knesset it shows as the speaker’s decision was racist in nature. She adds such decisions are a true danger to Israeli democracy and not the asylum-seekers.

Hundreds of asylum-seekers and their children protested in Levinsky Park in southern Tel Aviv, turning to the United Nations to grant them refugee status.
