Mayor Rubinstein Accuses Minister Ariel of Discriminating Against Chareidim

rubenBetar Illit Mayor Yaakov Rubinstein accuses Housing Minister Uri Ariel of discriminating against the chareidi tzibur. Rubinstein refers to the recent announcement of 1,400 new housing units, of which only 102 in Emanuel and 24 in Betar Illit. It appears Rubinstein opts to ignore the 600 apartments that are included in Ramat Shlomo.

The mayor however prefers to make his case by explaining less than 40% of the housing throughout Yehuda and Shomron is allocated to the chareidim despite the community’s size. He feels the chareidim in Yehuda and Shomron must receive no less than 300 housing units, not 126. Rubinstein is demanding that Housing Minister Uri Ariel build additional homes in Betar Illit, accusing the dati leumi minister of discriminating against chareidim.

MK Yaakov Litzman adds that Ariel’s decision is testimony to his “insensitivity and wickedness towards the entire chareidi sector.” Shas leader Aryeh Deri adds the decision shows the minister does indeed discriminate against the chareidi tzibur.

  1. That would be like complaining that Hitler was an anti-semite, or that whites in America discriminated against blacks under Jim Crow. He was elected on a platform of “If you vote for me, I will discriminate agains the hareidim”.

  2. Emanuel is falling apart and is dysfunctional as a city. You can’t blame the government for not wanting to add many more homes there.
