Education Minister Piron Likely to Abolish Psychometric Exam

pironEducation Minister (Yesh Atid) Rabbi Shai Piron has signaled he plans to soon announce that students will be able to enter a college or university without taking the psychometric entry exam.

According to the Yediot Achronot report, a student with a valid high school matriculation diploma will be eligible to apply for a university without having to take the entry exam. The ministry will determine the grade average that will be required in various subjects to meet eligibility requirements. It appears the minister is looking at an 87 average as the entry grade that includes five points in math, English and Hebrew, the highest level option for those subjects.

One wishing to take the entry exam will still have that option available. This would be necessary for high school graduates that do not have the grade average required to bypass the exam.

The minister and ministry experts will meet with university representatives and other officials involved in higher education before a final decision is rendered.

  1. Great news! Does that mean that a yeshiva bochur who gets a “90” on his Mivchan on Chezkas habatim could now apply to college without the psychometric exam?
