As a result of an Arutz-7 report, tefilin lost in the 1967 battle at Jerusalem’s Ammunition Hill were reunited with their owner, former soldier Rafi Yanai.
A7 reports that Yanai was among the soldiers who took part in that difficult battle and after learning of the tefilin, Yanai’s daughter contacted the station and they then contacted Kitri Maoz, who is the director of the Ammunition Hill Memorial Site. Maoz was thrilled to be able to return the tefilin to the owner.
The story began about a month ago when a member of the 55th Brigade that liberated Yerushalayim brought the tefilin to Maoz. He explained that the tefilin were in his possession since that battle. He found them after the battle but they were sent immediately to the Golan Heights so he was unable to look for the owner. He forgot about the tefilin until retuning to the holy city after the Six Day War for equipment. They have been in his home for the past 46 years. When he heard of the planned museum at Ammunition Hill he decided it would be appropriate to add the tefilin. After the family read the A7 report, Yanai was able to give the appropriate simanim and reclaim his tefilin.
