NYS Police: 86-Year-Old Man Drove 8 Miles On I-87 The Wrong Way Before Being Pulled Over


nyspnNew York State police say a Rockland County man is being evaluated at a hospital after he was stopped for driving on the wrong side of Interstate 87.

Police say it happened around 2:45 p.m. Monday. They were alerted by other motorists who called 911.

According to the Journal News, the 86-year-old driver was spotted driving northbound in the southbound lanes.

Police were able to pull him over near Tuxedo, New York after several attempts.

They say he had traveled the wrong way for about 8 miles before being stopped. Police say several cars were forced off the road to avoid a collision.

Police didn’t release the driver’s name. They believe he suffers from dementia. No charges were filed.

  1. When are they going to realize that they must starts. Program to re-test elderly drivers to make sure they are still fit to drive?!

    Husband: Darling it’s worse than they are reporting, there’s a whole bunch of people driving the wrong way!
