New York State police say a Rockland County man is being evaluated at a hospital after he was stopped for driving on the wrong side of Interstate 87.
Police say it happened around 2:45 p.m. Monday. They were alerted by other motorists who called 911.
According to the Journal News, the 86-year-old driver was spotted driving northbound in the southbound lanes.
Police were able to pull him over near Tuxedo, New York after several attempts.
They say he had traveled the wrong way for about 8 miles before being stopped. Police say several cars were forced off the road to avoid a collision.
Police didn’t release the driver’s name. They believe he suffers from dementia. No charges were filed.
