Bill de Blasio tackled his first snowfall as New York City mayor by shoveling the sidewalk outside his Brooklyn home.
He began clearing the snow outside his Park Slope home early Friday morning.
Wearing a black jacket and gloves, de Blasio joked with reporters and demonstrated proper shoveling techniques.
He later brought out salt to spread on the walk.
Asked where his son Dante was, the mayor joked he would get the second shift.
In a statement, de Blasio said a winter storm warning remained in effect throughout the city until 1 p.m.
He urged New Yorkers who had to go out to use public transit.
He says nearly 2,500 plows are on the streets. Crews also will be clearing crosswalks and bus stop shelters.

I want to see him shovel in two years, when he’ll be used to being a mayor
Very impressive. Rotten Bloomberg never held a shovel in his life!
I’d personally prefer a mayor that spent his time on his computer working and can afford for a company to shovel his walk.
