Our District Office has been in direct contact with the Mayor’s office, Sanitation and OEM to ensure our local streets are safe. Heavy snow, strong winds and dangerously cold wind chills are expected tonight into Friday.
Councilmember Deutsch will be personally canvassing the district throughout the storm and urges you to check on elderly and disabled neighbors as well as secure loose objects around your home.
In preparation of the snow, Councilmember Deutsch has spoken to the Superintendents at each of the Sanitation garages located in Council District 48. They have assured him that they have already begun spreading salt, preparing equipment, including attaching plows, notifying supplementary personnel and dispatching additional plows. DSNY advised that if you already have garbage out for collection, it should be secured but it is not necessary to remove it from curbside. Garbage will be picked up as storm-related work allows. DSNY reminds everyone they must clean snow and/or ice from the sidewalk within 4 hours after the snow has stopped falling or by 11:00am if the snow has stopped falling after 9:00pm the previous evening.
All relevant city agencies have been notified of the snow alert. Our office will continue to monitor the storm and will provide updates as needed. All winter weather information and information about the City’s response to the storm can be found by visiting the City’s Severe Weather Website at or by calling 311. We will have an emergency number for snow related emergencies @ 917-642-1401.
Councilmember Chaim Deutsch represents Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Homecrest, Trump Village, Luna Park, Brightwater Towers and parts of Midwood.
