Israel Electric Company Executive Director Yiftach Ron-Tal, a retired IDF major-general, was interviewed on Israel Radio on Monday morning 27 Teves 5774 ahead of the next release of Arab terrorists by Israel.
Ron-Tal explained that the fact government leaders continue telling us that murderers being released have served 20+ years of their sentence is irrelevant. He explained “they are murderers and they killed children, the elderly, murdering indiscriminately.”
Ron-Tal feels “they should not see the day of light a single day ahead of completing their sentence. Perhaps if we had the death penalty in this country we would not be having this discussion for many of them would have been executed for their heinous acts.”
Ron-Tal, a former commander of IDF ground forces feels the release will do absolutely nothing to advance peace efforts between Israel and the PA or Hamas, yet it may lead to additional terrorism. He feels that from Hamas’ perspective, it has learned that it has every interest in the world to continue with its current policies vis-à-vis Israel. “While Hamas is more or less quiet, it encourages terrorism and uses smaller terror organizations to carry out attacks, which serve its agenda. We must wage an ongoing war. We have the ability and one of the world’s best intelligence agencies and we must use these abilities against Hamas. It will not be simple and there are risks, especially in the short term regarding Gaza border communities.”
“The terrorism in Gaza is no longer just a threat to Sderot and the surrounding area since the rockets can now reach Tel Aviv and other areas of the country.”
