“I READ THE BOOK AND IT IS JUST AMAZING. I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF THE FAMILY, WITH THEIR REGLIGIOUS PRACTICES, REALLY DID HAVE JEWISH ROOTS (MARRANOS). AN INSPIRING STORY, ESPECIALLY HOW EACH MEMBER CAME TO LOVINGLY EMBRACE TORAH.”

Klal Yisroel has seen many gerim over the years, and there have been a number of books written about their stories. What is so different about The Mountain Family?

“I couldn’t put down Mountain Family! There’s so much love for others here. Sheryl appreciates her family, in-laws and everyone who helped her along her journey — Jewish or not. And it’s quite a unique journey. “

A unique journey indeed.  It’s the unusual story of the Massey family’s lifestyle prior to conversion that makes The Mountain Family, (Artscroll Mesorah Publications) such a fascinating read. We’re talking Appalachia. A shack with no running water. An educated middle-class woman learning to use a wringer washer – and homeschooling her ten kids. A family searching for eternal truth in the forgotten backwoods.

The effect that The Mountain Family is having upon readers  is amazing.

“I read this book throughout this past Shabbos and when I tap into that feeling of what I felt like when I finished the book, my soul is literally in a place of calm and happiness with a feeling of security. The book along with many lessons in its incredible descriptive format, focuses on the deeply embedded resources of Bitachon that are available. May Hashem grant much Hatzlacha in allowing our Bitachon to penetrate easily and for a monumental Kiddush Hashem to take place from here on. “

I read the book yesterday and really enjoyed it. It really gave me a good subtle mussar lesson in appreciating what I have! (Imamother)

“Well, this story is wild. It’s co-authored by Penina Neiman and is the story of Tzirel Rus Berger… and is    written in first person telling of Tzirel Rus’s story raising 10 children in the Appalachian mountain area. .. that part of the story is an eye-opener ,about the lives of families living that lifestyle (she lived with an outhouse!) Then, she and ALL of her kids convert and the story is a wild ride and an amazingly incredible one at that. I haven’t been this excited about a book in a long time. (Imamother)

And this from a non-orthodox reader,” I really enjoyed the book. I found the way the Jewish community welcomed the Masseys’ so inspiring. And Sheryls’ description of her search for G-d’s True People made me feel so special to be  a Jew!”
