The family of the Rahat resident murdered by sniper fire from Gaza is asking a number of basic questions.
The bereaved family members are asking the IDF why their son, who worked for a company making repairs on the border fence, was not given a flak jacket and helmet. They point out that soldiers patrolling the area must do so in armored vehicles and they must wear protective gear, yet the civilians working on repairing the fence are exposed to enemy fire.
The victim was making border fence repairs as a result of damage incurred in the recent winter storm. He was hit in his upper torso from sniper fire near Kfar Aza. He was flown in an air force chopper to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva but they were unable to save him.

The family is 100 percent correct. However, if he was working for a conctractor or subcontractor of the IDF, it is the responsibility of the employer to assure their employees have the proper protection, not the IDF. Maybe, in the future, they should include that requirement for protective wear as a condition of the contract.
I also agree that there was negligence here in securing his safety. Besides protective gear they should put up a temp screen to block Palestinian viewing while work is being done. That alone probably would have saved his life. May Hashem be מנחם the family.
